Efficient design
The Intel Core i5-1235U was announced at the beginning of 2022 and is part of the Alder Lake-U architecture. The "U" stands for ultra-low voltage and focuses on low power consumption rather than maximum performance. This makes the architecture suitable for thin and light laptops. Most U processors are found in mid-range CPUs. The Intel Core i5-1235U offers eight efficiency and two performance cores and has a clock frequency of 0.9 to 4.4 GHz. The TDP ("power consumption") of 15 watts is within the expected range for an Intel Core i5 processor. A maximum of 55 watts can be achieved in accelerated mode. The 10 nm technology with which the processor is manufactured is no longer quite up to date, but the price is somewhat lower. With RAM support of up to 5200 MHz, almost all current RAM can be installed.

Many possible applications
The Intel Core i5-1235U is well suited for most applications. Office applications and simple image or video editing pose no problems. Even some games that are not too graphics-intensive, such as Apex Legends or Fortnite, can be played on a low or medium detail level without the help of an external graphics card. If the processor is too slow for you, you can upgrade to the more expensive but significantly faster Intel Core i7-1255U. For business applications, care should be taken to ensure that the processor is only equipped with "Essentials" vPro. Business features such as improved security, ease of maintenance and more efficient use of software are included in vPro.
The processor is mainly installed in office laptops, which are intended for normal to demanding office work. HP in particular installs the chip in various series in a price segment starting at around €700.
