We have not appointed a Data Protection Officer, as we are not required to do so for our current processing activities.

4. General information

We process personal data in accordance with applicable data protection laws, including the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, and this Privacy Policy.

"Personal data" means any information relating to an identified or identifiable individual (e.g., email address, IP address).

5. Data collected when you visit the Website

5.1 Server logs

When you visit the Website, our server automatically records information (“server logs”), including: IP address, date and time of request, requested URL/page, referrer URL, browser type/version, operating system and device information.

Where technically possible and appropriate, IP addresses in log data are truncated/anonymised; until the daily rotation, log data may temporarily contain a full IP address.

Purpose: technical delivery of the Website, security/stability (e.g., protection against attacks), error analysis, abuse prevention.

Legal basis: legitimate interests.

Retention: server logs are rotated daily, compressed and retained for 30 days, then deleted. As part of the rotation, IP addresses are truncated/anonymised so that no full IP address is stored after rotation. Longer retention may be necessary in individual cases to investigate security incidents.

Web Application Firewall (WAF/ModSecurity): To protect the Website, security-related events may be logged as part of protective measures such as a web application firewall. Query/payload logging (content/input data) is not enabled.

As part of hosting, personal data that arises when using the Website is processed (in particular server logs, technically required communication data, and security-related logs as part of protective measures such as a web application firewall).

Legal basis: legitimate interests (secure, efficient provision of the Website). We have a data processing agreement in place with the host.

6. Cookies / storage and access on your device (PECR)

We use only one strictly necessary cookie required to provide a service you explicitly request (product comparison). We do not use third-party tracking cookies or third-party tracking scripts on the Website.

Under PECR, consent is not required for cookies that are strictly necessary to provide a service requested by the user. You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings; this may limit Website functionality.

7. Price alerts (email notifications)

You can set a price alert for products to be notified by email when a partner retailer offers the product at or below your target price.

Data processed: email address, product(s), target price, and status/timestamps (sign-up, confirmation, opt-out/deletion).

Double opt-in: the alert is activated only after you confirm via the link in the confirmation email. We store the confirmation status and timestamps to evidence consent.

Email delivery: sent via our own mail server (no external email marketing provider for sending these emails).

Legal basis: consent. You can withdraw consent at any time (unsubscribe link or email to privacy@your-perfect-laptop.co.uk).

7.1 Deletion rules for price alerts

Unconfirmed alerts: deleted after 30 days
After notification: can be adjusted/reactivated within 30 days, otherwise deleted
No notification within 365 days: deleted automatically

8. Affiliate links, partner retailers and SubIDs

8.1 What we process when you click an affiliate link

The Website contains affiliate links to partner retailers. If you click an affiliate link, we may receive a commission (for the click and/or a later purchase). This does not increase your price.

When you click an affiliate link, we process data needed to document and bill the referral, such as: click timestamp, destination URL/retailer, internal product reference, and a pseudonymous click identifier ("SubID"). URL parameters (e.g., SubID / "utm_*") may be added to enable attribution.

Legal basis: legitimate interests (billing, fraud prevention, business operation).

Retention: up to 12 months, then deleted/anonymised unless legal retention obligations apply.

8.2 Processing by partner retailers / affiliate networks (after you leave our Website)

When you click an affiliate link, you leave our Website. We do not place affiliate network tracking cookies or scripts on our Website. From the moment you access the partner retailer or affiliate network destination, that provider processes personal data under its own responsibility (e.g., IP address, device/browser data, referrer information and any cookies/trackers used on that site). 8.3 International transfers (including the US)

Depending on the provider and its technical infrastructure, processing may occur in countries outside the UK. Providers may rely on applicable transfer mechanisms.

US transfers (UK Extension / UK-US Data Bridge): UK organisations may rely on the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (UK-US Data Bridge) for transfers to US recipients who are certified and opted into the UK Extension, subject to applicable conditions.

Your IP address is technically required to access the Website. Providing your email address for price alerts is optional, but necessary to receive alerts.
